Awakening the Clitoris

After hearing countless sex histories from girls and women over the past four decades, I believe sexual repression begins the moment a parent or caregiver punishes a child’s natural curiosity for touching their own sex organs.

Society needs to understand that the health of each person’s sexlife rests upon childhood masturbation— the foundation upon which all of human sexuality is based. It’s very consistent that each client I see struggling with orgasms as an adult has no memory of masturbating in childhood or in their teens. The absence of this natural self-exploration interferes with the development of nerve pathways that carry positive sensations from our genitals to the pleasure center in the brain. This blocks or slows down the development of sexual release with orgasm.

Learn a New Orgasm: How to Upgrade Your Masturbation Technique

Over the years, one frequently asked question comes from women and a few men who are unable to incorporate their current method of masturbation into partnersex.

Many have carried the same pattern of childhood masturbation over into adulthood and it's now the only way they can get off. Some are stimulating their genitals with one or both hands pressed between legs that are tightly squeezed together while lying face down on their tummies- not conducive to sharing orgasms with another person. Others are humping folded blankets, wooden floors, riding the arm of an overstuffed chair or pressing against hard counter tops.

Dear Betty,

I'm hoping you would give me some insights to what's going on. I'm a girl, 21 years, healthy, non sexually active .Almost 2 months ago, I masturbated like once per night for like 5 days to reach an orgasm and it helps me sleep. Is that considered to be over doing it. I kinda just use my fingers to create a vibration and that's it. My real question is that after the 5 days I stopped doing it and I having this feeling like I need to pee all the time!

19 Years Old - Will Kegels Better My Sex Life?

Dear Dr. Betty,

I am a 19 year old interested in doing kegels to better my sex life with myself and a partner in the future.

I'd love to get strong results, and getting a kegel exerciser seems the way to go, except after my research there are several sights and people claiming that it is actually a bad way to go -both unnecessary and not as healthy as doing kegels without it.

What do you say to this?

Dear S,

What I say is "to each her own." Chances are you do not need to get your PC muscles stronger. Actually Kegels were designed for women who had given childbirth and needed to restore the muscles. I simply find using the pelvic floor muscles during penetration while including a vibrator on my clitoris enhances my orgasm.

Should Women with Small Clits Practice a Different Form of Stimulation?

Dear Dr. Betty,

Howdy & MANY THANKS for this site and your work!!!

The short version: should women with eensy weensy clitoral glans (thanks for the anatomy lesson) practice a different form of stimulation? I've read bunches on your site, watched one of your Orgasm Dr videos, and followed (or tried to) your rock & roll technique (although I am a cheap skate and already sprang for a Hitachi & other things before finding your site and have not invested in the Barbell yet).

How Can I Relax & Embrace Pleasure During Pregnancy?

Dear Betty,

first of all, thank you for doing this noble work of yours.

I have been in a loving, monogamous relationship with my man for about five years.  Before him, I had six partners and not really fulfilling romantic or sexual life. My first partner was satisfying me, but I cannot even remember the details since it was very long time ago and I mostly remember being very unhappy about him not wanting to be anything else but my fuck-friend.

Why Am I Sad After Amazing Sex?

Dear Betty,

I have recently experienced something confusing and I would love your perspective. I met a man with whom I have unprecedented chemistry. We had mind-blowing sex, he was by far the best lover I ever had. In a way, he encompasses all the best skills and attributes of many of my previous / other lovers. Still, I cannot shake off feelings of sadness that I experienced just after a very intense orgasm with him.

My first question to him after coming was 'are you happy in life?' as if I tapped into some sadness of unknown origin. Have you ever experienced anything like that?

How to know if this sadness is mine or his (ie. I could have felt it due to intense interpersonal connection?

Dear N,

I Have Absolutely No Sex Drive

Hi Dr. Betty,

I'm 46 years old and peri-menopausal. I'm also on anti-anxiety meds right now. The result? I have absolutely no sex drive!! And when I try to have sex with my husband, I don't get wet like I used to and my orgasms elude me (and I'm used to having multiple orgasms every time!!). A sure fire way for me to cum is for my hubby to eat my pussy. That's how I have all my orgasms.

For the past many many months, however....NOTHING! I don't self lubricate and I don't cum. Not to mention I don't crave sex anymore (something I always loved!). Is this totally normal for a woman my age? Will I get my drive back once menopause is done?

How long will that take? What's a girl to do?

Does the Penis Have 8,000 Nerve Endings Like the Clitoris?

Sun, 05/07/2017 - 14:47
Submitted by Betty Dodson

Dear Dr. Betty,

I read that there are 8,000 nerve endings on the female clitoris. On women who have large clitorises, it looks just like a male penis head.

It strikes me that there might be the same number of nerve ending on a penis - what do you think?

Dear I,

Circumcised or uncut? I doubt the head of a penis has that many nerve endings as it would be too sensitive to own. Remember the glans clitoris is protected under the hood of the clitoris. I believe there is a very sensitive spot just under the head of the penis that resembles a V and is very responsive. Basically it all feels good with additional lubrication like Almond or Coconut oil.

Could Asymmetrical Labia be Blocking My Orgasm?

Hello!

I love your site and I hope you could help me with this.

I'm 16 years old and I've never been able to have an orgasm. A lot of my friends talk about it and stuff. I tried different methods but nothing seem to work.

I feel like something is wrong with my vagina. It looks ugly. It's asymmetric and there's only one labia. I feel really insecure about it. Another thing I found on the internet is that about 10% of women have never have and never will be able to have an orgasm. That scares me. I don't want to be among them.

Please do help me.

Is My Penis Too Small?

Dear Dr. Betty

I might not have such a special problem, it seems like there are questions sort of like mine all over the internet, but few people take it seriously or they take a PC approach to everything to the point they just totally dissmiss the posters questions. The people who answer seem to be more worried about their reputation and how their answer will be seen or thought of, rather than speaking the truth about things.

I Can Never Seem to Get Myself All the Way There

Hi Betty,

I'm 22 years old and a virgin and I have never had an orgasm. I masturbate fairly regularly, sometimes multiple times a day, but I can never seem to get myself all the way there. I know where my clitoris is, that's not a problem, and I get very wet when I touch myself. It feels good when I rub my clit but after a while either gets sore, or it's just boring and stops feeling like anything at all. I have a vibrate too but it doesn't really give me any pleasure, it feels almost the same as it might if I held it against my arm or something.

Think I Developed Extra Skin on My Clitoral Hood From Masturbating

Sun, 04/16/2017 - 14:21
Submitted by Betty Dodson

Hi Betty,

When I was pregnant, I developed a growth of skin on one side of my clitoral hood.

My OBGYN said she would remove it while I was delivering but for some reason or another it didn't happen. 10 years later, it's getting in my way when I'm trying to masterbate and I feel like it is taking a hit on my self esteem because I think I caused it by the skin to skin friction while masturbating. I've never seen anything like it in your pictures, and I'm shy to see a gynecologist about it now.

I was curious if you've ever seen something like that before, or if it's normal to develop extra skin from masturbating.

Thanks

Dear H,

How Long Does It Take a Shaving Cut on Your Labia to Heal?

Tue, 04/11/2017 - 08:08
Submitted by Betty Dodson

Dear Betty,

I just had an incident with my brand new razor. I was shaving, and I have hair just inside of my vaginal lips, so I tried to shave them... And felt a slight sting during. I thought nothing of it until I got out of the shower.

I have a cut from the clit connection to the labia minora (or looking up a detailed photo of a vagina, it's basically right on the Glands of the clitoris, but not actually on my clit and my clit appears to be unscathed). It's about half a centimeter or so I think, and it doesn't hurt right now, but I'm a little nervous and would like to know how long generally it will take to heal.

I won't be masturbating or having sex until it's healed because it looks terrifying.

Please help,
A
